Applied Final Project Murraine 2 Abstract In the contemporary world of psychology, there are many different theories, approaches, and views. There are several approaches in psychology, and today I will talk about the cognitive approach. Most theoreticians have dealt with the cognitive approach, and many of them have developed various theories that can still be used today. As we evolve over the centuries, the cognitive approach of today's society adapts. It continues to change as new evidence is being discovered and created.

Applied Final Project Murraine 3 The theoretical perspective of the cognitive approach The theoretical perspective of the cognitive approach depends on the thinking processes that influence our individual behavior. In the cognitive approach, theorists tend to think that things in our environment influence our behavior and how we react to it. In 1948, Norbert Wiener published the first information on the cognitive approach, and it was titled "Cybernetics: Control and Communication in Animal and Machine" (McLeod, 2015). He gave us many terms such as input and output. He has published a book entitled "Cognitive Psychology" and this groundbreaking approach got its name (McLeod, 2015). Although the cognitive approach has begun at this time, this does not mark the beginning of the approach. Many believe that the first researchers to dive into the idea of cognitive processes were Paul Broca and Carl Wernicke in the mid to late 19th century (McLeod, 2015). Paul Broca was accredited for his finding of the brain language domain. Carl Wernicke was also accredited for his finding of the brain area responsible for understanding speech. The next breakthrough within the cognitive approach was in the 1930s from Jean Piaget's theory of cognitive development. Finally, there was Aaron Temkin Beck, an American psychiatrist, and psychotherapist. Together with Albert Ellis, Beck transformed the classical behavioral therapy and extended it with cognitive concepts. There are several other theoreticians who have helped mold the view of the cognitive approach. I have just listed a few, and over time, this theory progress. Major theorists: Cognitive Approach Jean Piaget First, we will talk about Jean Piaget. Piaget was one of the first to theorize a cognitive approach. He thought that cognitive development is a method that happens because of the biological maturation and interaction with an individual's environment. Piaget's contributions involve a series of simple tests to determine different cognitive abilities, the stage theory of child cognitive development, and a thorough observational study of cognitive abilities in children. His theory
