MANAGEMENT AND HUMAN RESOUCE FUNCTIONS 3 MANAGEMNT AND HR FUNCTION Introduction In business organizations and firms, in most cases, general managers are assigned the key role of foreseeing all the activities carried out within the organizational operational environment (Fayol, 2016) . In that case, they have both responsibility and authority to ensure their organizations meets the set objectives through well managed managerial principles and operational policies which are meant to ensure effective and efficient operational process. General Manager should also ensure he or she has a well competent team of middle level managers and departmental heads who are to assist him in the smooth running of the organizational activities (Thompson, 2017) . This can be achieved by the introduction of Human resource manager position which is to assume the role of ensuring the company hires the right individual for various positions, skilled personnel (Dias, 2016) . In addition to that, Human resource department also ensures discipline among employees in relation to their assigned duties. Overview of the case Samantha, an experienced retail manager in a large department store, was just appointed by Brian to be the General Manager of Big Bytes, a big business organization operating under a chain of stores. Big Bytes is an organization involved in the selling and repair of computer equipments and IT related accessories. The organization had its stores located in large heartland malls. Brian appointed Samantha the role of General Manager because he felt that due to the recent developments which include increase in shopping hours to seven days a week, control of stores were now beyond his span of control. Without a clear defined role, Samantha assumed the position of General Manager and after a short period of two months, she realized that through
