EFFECT OF ALTITUDE ON TAINING 3 EFFECT OF ALTITUDE TRAINING Introduction Altitude is a vertical distance measurement above the sea level. Generally, altitude is rated as high or low. High altitude is considered to be between 5000 and 11500 feet above the sea level. (1,524 and 3,505.2 m). On the other side, high altitude are those between 11500 and 18000 in measurement (Tam et al., 2016). At high altitude, atmospheric pressure is lower compared to that at sea level. There are different types of attitudes which are considered by sports individuals as far as training and sports are concerned. Most sports personnel do prefer training at highs attitude due to its unbearable condition so that they can take advantage of the good condition in low attitude during the real sports activity. While training at high altitude, the amount of oxygen being absorbed by the muscles decreases. High altitude contains low atmospheric pressure within the thin air a factor which highly contributes to little amount of oxygen being absorbed into the blood which finally travels to the muscles (Connolly et al., 2018) Contrary to the believe of most individuals, high altitude is believed to slow down performance of athletes (Thornton et al, 2017), this has been evidenced by some of the research articles, and therefore it leaves people guessing on what is the right altitude for practice. Athletes do prefer to train at high altitude to allow their bodies to acquire more blood cells. These athletes will be advantageous at low altitude due to their changed physiology which can last for two to three weeks. Cardiovascular endurance refers to the ability of the heart, lungs and blood vessels to deliver oxygen to the body tissues (Mandrup et al., 2017). The rate of breathing in an individual will depend on the level of efficiency the body can deliver oxygen to its tissues. With a robust

EFFECT OF ALTITUDE ON TAINING 4 and efficient oxygen delivery, the human body finds the ability to function much well than when the rate of oxygen supply is law, mostly during sports ( Lotters et al., 2002). Abstract The research document comprises of several headings and subheadings from the introduction up to references. According to the introduction to the research question, it states that there are two sets of altitudes, normal/low and high altitude whereby high altitude is considered to be between 5000 and 11500. In the literature review, the document elaborates on the effects of altitude training on individual performance during sport activities whereby it states that altitude training can lead to better performance in sport activities due to the physiological changes in an individual which leads to high amount of red blood cells in the body (Siebenmann et al., 2017).
