Twenge’s “Have smartphones ruined a generation” illustrates the social downfall of a generation and the impact it has on their well-being. Around 2012 the majority of teens began a trend unlike any other generation of teens before, they lived their lives through smartphones. Instead of physical interaction with friends, kids are more likely to be at home and socialize via social media. Not only do kids fail to partake in traditional socialization, they also have less motivation for independence, along with other freedoms associated with adulthood, unlike previous generations. This generation of teens is less likely to go out on dates, less likely to have tasted alcohol, and less likely to receive their driver’s licence before they graduate high school.
