Velazquez 1 Jerdan Velazquez English 101 Mr. Ferrians October 5, 2018 Modern Wiffle Ball Jenny Stroud Rossman’s “The Contentious Physics of Wiffle Ball,” captures the evolution of a scientifically complex game made for children. Throughout the 1940’s the “curve ball” was thought to be an optical illusion until 1953, when an experiment was launched to uncover the truth. In conclusion the balls rotation lowered the air pressure on the lower half of the baseball dragging it in that direction. The only problem being the act of throwing a curveball puts a great amount of stress on the elbow of the thrower especially in young pitcher’s arms. This problem was the platform that the design of the Wiffle Ball was based on, a light plastic ball simply requiring finger positioning to resemble the arc of a curve ball. However nobody quite knew how. Many physicists including Rossman published their own theories, and studies, but all pointed in different direction. Rossman’s findings suggested that a “wind vortex” is

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
