Strunk, Jack 2/1/19 Reading Time: 15 Writing Time: 70 Words: 690 Christian Biology The idea of origin is foundational to Christian belief. The Bible begins with the Creation story, and it has led Christians to hold three main beliefs: Young age creationism, progressive creationism, and theistic evolution. Young age creationists believe that God created the earth in seven days, in much its present form, possibly six thousand years ago. Progressive creationists believe God took longer than seven days, possibly many years, but that the animals were still in much the same form as today. Theistic evolution believes that God used evolution to create the world by simply starting the process. Jeff Myers then gives five reasons why the Christian idea of a supernatural beginning to the world (special creation) should be reasonable to everyone. First, life can only come from life. Before microscopes existed, the idea of spontaneous generation, of life without life, was widespread. Nowadays, however, we believe that nothing spontaneous generates, that everything comes from something.
