Overall, entail the following: Power imbalances lead to oppression among certain groups Critical theorists should uncover these imbalances so they can emancipate others Often attempt to “deconstruct” meaning to reveal social and political meanings B. Focus on: Organizational discourse creates and recreates power structures in the workplace Ideology o Taken for granted assumptions about reality Hegemony o Manufactured consent where employees adopt and reinforce hierarchical power structures C. 1. Concretive control o Power is embedded in a system of identification and discipline 2. Feminist theory o Women marginalized due to patriarchal nature of orgs and gender dynamics o Levels of feminism a. Liberal- work within system (say “he or she” instead of “he” b. Radical- system itself if broken- get rid of it completely! 3. Deconstructionism defined o “A Real Job” means what? o “Keep A Record” means what? II. Power A.
