North Country Hospital has a group which was created to review current policy and procedure relating to the on-call schedule for the surgical services department and provide recommend changes. As with all groups, certain stages were accomplished during the task for recommending policy changes. The group went through stages of forming, storming, norming, and performing, which theorists believe must occur before tasks can be achieved within the group (Marquis & Huston, 2017). The forming stage occurs when the group is first created and during this phase is when objectives are determined, relationships are formed within the group, and leadership needs to establish direction and guidance for the group and individuals (Marquis & Huston, 2017; Mind Tools, 2009). The next stage in the group is the storming stage which is when, as one might expect from it’s name, is when oppositions and resistance will most likely occur (Marquis & Huston, 2017; Mind Tools, 2009).
