Charles Jr 1 Dewayne Charles Jr. Mr. Pottorff English Comp 1 13 November 2018 Basketball role play Growing up I was told what sport I was going to play. Basketball was that sport that was forced upon me as a young adolescent. It came natural to me after a while, but I always wondered what my life be like now if I had chosen my own sport or tested out other ones. I never regret not speaking up and saying I wanted to try other sports because basketball made me who I am today as well as a better person, will help my future, made my life better along the way, and positively enhances and enhanced my body and mind every day. The way basketball was introduced into my life before I was forced to play was a typical child- hood encounter. It started with my mom and I playing in the house daily. It was nothing serious just playful one on ones on the little basketball hoop I had. She always told me she was going to sign me up but either I was too young to play for the team that was on my skill-set level or it was forgotten about. Also, I never really expressed to her if I wanted to play or not but this one day when me and her were playing my grandfather made the decision for me. He told me he was tired of seeing me just play around the house and ended up buying me a real basketball goal just for me. He put it in front of my house and hosted a basketball tournament of kids my age there. After he told me I needed to take it seriously and told me I was going to play basketball as my main sport. After a while I started to love the game all because of him. I didn’t know how to control my emotions at times growing up. Nor did I know what person I wanted to be as far as what type of character I wanted to have. I sometimes faught as a result to being angry or even worse. A lot of things I got into as child growing up, I thought were okay since seeing my older friends, family members and even older siblings do. I was still trying to find myself in the chaotic,

Charles Jr 2 diminishing environment I was stuck in. I sometimes knew I was doing wrong but continued to do so just for the simple fact that I didn’t really care at a point in my life. I did what I had to do regardless of the consequence to see the next day and provide for my family. That was my mindset growing up as such a
