Cultural Taboos are a minimal threat to the global environment in comparison to other global issues we are facing. Taboos are more simply things to avoid. They are gestures or sayingsthat can cause offense in other cultures. Taboos can also be based in a belief set or a religion. Cultural Taboos, although damaging, are also avoidable. This is not an issue that demands our immediate attention. There is however evidence that Cultural Taboos can cause poverty. “Taboos and other customs introduce constraints and affect the flexibility of input markets. They can contribute to poverty and low agricultural productivity.” [Chawn] While this is an issue that needs to be addressed, it is not an issue that will have immediate effects on our future survival and sustainability.
