PERSONAL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PLAN LEADERSHIPVISION STATEMENT FORTSGT SENIOR NONCOMMISSIONED OFFICER ACADEMY12 DECEMBER 2018INSTRUCTOR: SMSgt
Up to this point in my career I would categorize my leadership style as Management by Exception- Passive (MEB-P). As a leader with the MEB-P approach, I don’t typically seek out solutions or really take on issues voluntarily. I have the attitude of “it’s not my problem”, until someone makes it my problem; such as my supervisor telling me to fix an issue. Over the next 3-5 years I intend to change this about myself. My goal is to be perceived as a Team Leader that anyone can follow no matter their own convictions or views. A leader that everyone wants to follow by setting the best example I can. The road to become this leader will take time and determination. There are things I must improve on to further my leadership skills. My way forward to improve my leader abilities overthe next few years are as follows: Make use of the Deliberate Development Plan (DDP) for myself and subordinates to set forth a path to guide our success. (M6) Influencing others to utilize DDP’s to foster professional development and growth within my organization. Using the DDP’s will begin the growth of my self-improvement through feedback concept of Idealized Influence. (M3) Once others see improvement of my subordinates and myself by carrying out our DDP, inspiration will set in and they will follow suit. Becoming the Team Leader that I aspire to will encourage others to follow my influence. As I improve myself as a leader and set new standards, co-workers will take notice. While I become the leader people look up to, my Personal Powers for effective negotiations will strengthen. (M8) With negotiations getting better for me, I will improve as an adaptable leader due to Emotional Flexibility. (M5) Change will not always be in my favor nor will negotiations, but in the years to come my Personal Powers and Emotional Flexibility will support one another, grow together, and provide me with more influence during change. Execution of all the above will inevitably turn me into a Team Leader. (M7) 1
My goal is for my subordinates to perceive me as someone to look up to and imitate. Becoming the Team Leader my subordinates require is imperative and will have my full attentionin the next 3-5 years. As I previously demonstrated the leadership concepts that I plan to employwork very well together, they mostly have a theme of leading by example. My subordinates need that positive example set in order to be effective followers.
