Moghani 1Bibi Soraya MoghaniProfessor BarbeeSYD 3800Final Interview PaperIntroductionFor my interview project, I spoke and questioned my two informants, Mary and Eric, about their experiences regarding their gender identity, gender expression, sexuality, and race intheir workplace. They are both cisgenders, however, differ in that one is a heterosexual (Mary)and the other is homosexual (Eric). My first informant, Mary, an American-Muslim graduatestudent with an MBA degree, has been working for HBO Latin America in Miami, for the lastfew years. My second informant, Eric, a Mexican-Christian, a current undergraduate student, hasbeen working for his local Panera Bread for the last eight months now. After interviewing both informants, I discovered three major findings: firstly, whilewomen have been constantly fighting for equal rights from men for centuries, we as a society failto acknowledge the men who are discriminated against within their own gender, as well;secondly, sexuality is something that is private to each person and does not -and should not-affect the way someone is able to do a job, however it can be assumed, or asked, by employersand colleagues which leads to more unnoticed marginalization and sexual harassment; and lastly, unfortunately, minorities - religious and ethnic, specifically in this case Mary being Muslim andEric being Mexican- are constantly discriminated against simply because of physical aspects liketheir skin color or cultural requirements, like headscarves. Although Mary and Eric live and workcompletely separate lives, I found that they actually share more in common than they wouldthink. AnalysisFirstly, all throughout history and to this day, women have been constantly fighting for

Mary mentions how at her work she, as well as all other women, are instructed to wear heels every day and that flat shoes are frowned upon. This example may seem very small, however, it forces this image of all women to act feminine and express a false gender identity especially if they are not comfortable. On the other side though, those who always are ignored when discussing inequality between genders are the men who also experience discrimination from other men. Eric confessed that even homosexual males are
