They work in a variety of healthcare settings while assisting clients with daily activities and health monitoring. Overview Home health aides provide assistance to those in need, allowing them to remain at home for care. A growing elderly population means that many will require home health services, and it’s the home health aide’s job to assist home care clients with their activities of daily living. Clients receiving this care are frequently disabled, ill, or suffering from impairments. With an aide’s assistance, they can remain at home instead of being placed in an expensive hospital or nursing care facility. Due to differing state regulations and requirements, the path to becoming a home health aide can vary depending on the state and setting in which an aide works. requires. Most employers demand formal training in the roles and requirements associated with being a home health aide. Along with training, some states and employment agencies may also require aides to obtain certification to work. A certification is a qualification given to an aide who has been evaluated and shown to meet a set of standards. A certification is generally granted after successfully completing a test or evaluation. Career Opportunities Job prospects for home health aides today are bright. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, the home health aide field is expected to increase 38 percent between 2014 and 2024. This means that many new jobs will be created in the coming years. These jobs can be found in many areas of the healthcare landscape. The most common area for aides to find employment is in the home healthcare services industry. It provides an in-demand career option for those who enjoy working closely with others while providing care.
