Running Head: LEGALIZING MARIJUANA 2 Today, marijuana laws have been the center of many legal issue for many Americans. Currently, possession of marijuana is illegal, however there are some instances where possession is legal such as health related reasons. The shreaded leaves however are used by many people without who are not using it for medial related uses. Because marijuana is so popular and the use is such widespread all over the world, it is my recommendation that it become legalized for recreational use in every state. Introduction and Problem Definition Many Americans today both young and old enter into the world of legal issues as a result of possession of marijuana. This issue is affecting people locally, nationally, and internationally. This is an important issue for many reasons. Having a criminal record from being caught with marijuana is costing people jail time. People that have been arrested due to possession of marijuana are now becoming disqualified for many potential job opportunities for having a criminal record. In addition, many jobs are making employees take pre drug screenings and the use of marijuana are disqualifying applicants for the job. These employees and applicants are now at a disadvantage because they are missing out on the opportunity of job security. Students with criminal records are also at a disadvantage. Marijuana charges can make a student ineligible for admission to college and universities. Students in need of financial aid assistance may also be disqualified due to having a criminal record as a result of marijuana charges.
