Database Analyst Portfolio Desmond Watts Assignment 1 Statement : Database Migration Project Summary : The project was part of a new data module that we had acquired from one of the partner systems as their support engineers were overloaded. Apart from that there was intention of creating a bridge system between the incumbent database and the incoming project database. We were looking at a database of around 100 to 150 tables with an average number of tuples being 50,000 to 120,000. The database was built on Microsoft SQL server. The intention of the bridge was to start building reporting capability on the usage of data by the incumbent system and the new incoming database. This also paved way for remapping some of the important foreign and unique keys. The assignment consisted of creating new tables, queries, performance check, scheduled job creation for data migration on part y part basis, server improvisation also Auditing, and Logging tables have to be added. There was also involved an initial phase of discussion to come up challenges and risk involved for which a contingency report had to be shared. There was also a session for sharing the project planning and completion road map Role : My role was primarily concentrated in reporting capability that needs to be plugged in. This had a great push on my confidence as I was dealing with so much data that was again to grow as well as when used in conjunction with incumbent system database a huge opportunity opened up. I was also involved in planning and sharing the contingency plan. This I took as a good opportunity to assess projects and share feedback; a future lead role

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
