Chapter 1 2. What is a tort? Tort can be described as a civil wrong in which the victim recieves a remedy in the form of damages. Three types of Torts that fall under this are: Intentional Torts, Negligence, and Strict Liability. Intentional Torts are those crimes such as battery, assault, and false imprisionment. Next, Negligence is when acts are commited without intent but in violation of a reasonable person standard. Finally, Strict liability is used when acts are committed with absolutely no intent at all. 7. What are the primary differences between tort law and criminal law? Criminal Law has a primary purpose to inflict punishment, and make an individual pay whereas Tort Law is all about compensation. There are a few ways that a tort law can differ from a criminal law. An offense that is targeted against a society is strictly aimed towards criminal law.
