History 106, Midterm Study Guide, Spring 2019 The midterm will cover Chapters 23 and 24, class lectures, notes, and chapters. It will be administered via scantron. As such you will need to bring a pencil and clean eraser to class. (know a few – who they are) o Def- Political military leader with authoritarian tendencies o Used interchangeably with dictator o Juan Manuel de Rosas Rules Argentine from 1829-1852 Slowly extends his control from Buenos Aries to reign over Argentina o Justo Jose de Urquiza y Gracia Replaces de Rosas (1854-1860) Argentina experiences similar change as the American West Universal male suffrage is passed in 1912 The secret ballot is passed * o Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla Launches the movement for revolution in 1810 Comes after a series of events including the Battle Cry of Dolores in 1808 Betrayed by his own men in 1811 and is turned over to the Spanish Crown o Diaz Rules from 1848-187 One of the most prolific rulers Development flourishes Rail, textile, oil, agriculture Economy expands
