Abby Trethaway P2 T/Th 14 December 2017 US History Final Exam Essay Five Most Important Things I’ve Learned In US History This semester we have learned many things regarding US History. Although I do believe most of what we learned was important, there is a few that stick out more than most. I think that learning about Christopher Columbus, The Declaration of Independence, The Civil War, The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln, and the creation of the railroad system across the US. Christopher Columbus was sailing for Spain and looking for a westward route to Asia. He reached land on October 12th, 1492, and believed he had reached the West Indies, which is why he called the natives ‘Indians’. Learning about this, and his voyage to accidentally discovering the Americas was very important to learn for many reasons. Specifically, because it’s the main reason we have our civilization in America today. The Declaration of Independence, the basis of our freedom, was written by Thomas Jefferson and explained why and how the colonies were officially separating from the British rule. This
