The Civil War Who’s Who- Rebels: Southerners Yankees: Northerners Gray Uniforms: South Blue Uniforms: North Commander of the North: George McClellan then Ulysses S. Grant Commander of the South: Robert E. Lee Strengths and Weaknesses- North Strengths Fighting to keep the Union together Had large population = more soldiers More factories= could easily produce weapons and supplies Good railroad and telegraph systems Lincoln was an excellent leader Weaknesses Poor military leaders at the beginning of the war Had to fight on Southern soil Strengths and Weaknesses- South Strengths Fighting war for their independence and to preserve their way of life Most of the fighting was in the south = knew the terrain Soldiers were extremely well trained
