2 Neuron Structure Nerve Impulses l The electrochemical messages carried by neurons are called action potentials . l Action potentials are either excitatory or inhibitory. l The All-Or-None Law : An action potential is an all-or- nothing process – it’s either happening or not; there’s no “sort of” action potential. l This allows the message to reach its destination at full strength, regardless of distance, but does slow it down compared to regular electrical conduction.
