Jeffrey Frankens October 19 th , 2007 Assignment Short Paper -1How Religion Is More Than Just A Difference In Reading the American Past Chapter 1 there are two narratives concerning how Christianity thinks the world was created and how the Seneca Tribe thinks the world was created. Religion was one of the main reasons that European countries decided to settle in the new world, and from observing human culture we can see that in almost any society religion plays a large roll in their lives. When the Europeans came over to the new world religion was more than just a small difference between them and Native Americans, it made the Europeans see the Native Americans as a “lesser” people therefore justifying their right to exploit them. In A Seneca Origin Narrative the document talks about “The Woman Who Fell From the Sky” (pg. 2) which differs a lot from the Christian view of creation. The differences in religion will cause conflict and ultimately exploitation and death to many Native Americans. Although most Native Americans will die from disease, Europeans
