Unit 2 Discussion: Differences between manufacturing and service organization When talking about the introduction to operations management and the difference between manufacturing and service organization, I must first answer what is operations management? Operations Management is the business function that plans, organizes, coordinates, and controls the resources needed to produce a company’s goods and services. (Reid & Sanders 2016). Although manufacturing and service organizations both provide a vision for how a company or organization will be run and recognize by the customers, they also have some differences. Manufacturing organizations produces a tangible product and typical have low customer contact. Service organizations produces an intangible product, such as ideas, assistance, or information, and typically have high customer contact. Service organization, unlike manufacturers, do not hold inventory; they create a service when a client requires it. Manufacturers produce goods for stock, with inventory levels aligned to forecasts of market demand.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
