The Perks of Being a Wallflower Such a good book to read. It is emotional, interesting, and exciting. It follows the fails and triumphs of high school in a way I could never be able to write it. I see this book as a novel that will help you grow up. In fact, I am happy that I read it when I did because I was able to understand it more and appreciate the story since I am now going through many of the situations the characters were going through. My favorite thing about the book was how it was written. Charlie wrote letters to a friend and us, the audience, read those letters like if we were that friend. I found letter writing very casual and intimate. At times, it may also feel like the characters are too one-dimensional: the clichéd gay friend, the well- intentioned English teacher, the racist grandfather. Charlie’s therapist encourages him to participate, and he eventually comes to a better understanding of why people need something in their lives worth living. The main thing that I loved about the book, and probably the main conclusion that I drew from it, is that everyone is broken and everyone suffers and everyone is so flawed and vulnerable. Not just me. That is why we should not treat people as objects. People have their own demons and we must treat them as we wold want to be treated like. In conclusion, I have found The Perks of Being a Wallflower an easy read and a fun story, but there is definitely deeper subject matter and I would only recommend it to high school or older who can really understand what the real message is....
