The Cook’s Problem Cooks Children's Hospital is among the premier medical care agencies in the United States, and even in the world at large. As a specific organization that relies on a considerable amount of fundraising and donations to succeed, and as a pinnacle of the successful community because of what it offers, regardless of the child's family's ability to pay, the organization was recently forced to implement a new cost control policy that is best understood in the context of the details of the policy, the impact of the policy on the physical aspects of the organization, the impact of the policy on patient care quality, the unintended consequences, and the prospective alternatives to the policy. First, one has the basics of the policy. This new cost control policy was put in place after the organization realized, in May of 2018, that its billing and financial errors were costing it hundreds of thousands of dollars. Clerical errors, in particular, cost the entire Cook hospital system heavily in 2017 and 2018 alone (Stalets et al., 2018). The new policy promotes more internal accountability and responsibility by minimizing the potential errors for different departments. In fact, it was adopted system-wide and and multiple departments. Ultimately, the policy specifically addresses billing and the clerical concerns, because these are the errors that are found to most profoundly impact the organization's costs and revenue.
