The model consists of three components: population, resources and environment Population a) population size in an area (which country has the largest population?). Does the size of a population affect the demands of that population for resources…. not always!, b) population density (which country has the most dense population?. Does a greater density of people create more impact on the environment? Or is that what we need in order to save land for nature?, c) population distribution - Canada is characterized by having a population of low density, but we are crowded into southern Ontario and south western BC and so on. Much of the Canadian population lives within 160 km of the US border even though the country extends more than 4000 km south to north., and d) population growth rate (which country has the highest growth rate and does a high growth rate imply a huge impact on the environment…. not always!).
