Styles of Leadership According to Marquis& Huston (2017), leadership is a practice of persuading and influencing others towards an aim and is composed of a wide variety of roles and styles. “Leadership is less about your needs, and more about the needs of people and the organization you are leading” (Wall Street Journal, 2009, para. 1). The purpose of this paper is to explore the description and characteristics of leadership, plus the different styles of leadership and the impact on patient outcomes. Leadership Description According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) (2009), leadership style is not innate or not a thing that is to be tried on to see if it fits or not. However, it is something you can adapt to and learn. I agree with him. However, innate characteristics are something you have to scuffle with; if it is not suitable with what is required and needed at that time and moment to lead the team. In the 1950s and 60s, the leadership theory moved from leadership mannerisms, to what a leader actually does, three common leadership styles emerged ( Authoritarian, democratic and laisser- faire ). The illustration in behavior is very revealing.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
