Office of Price Administration 1940s- OPA set the price for EVERYTHING. Truman wouldn’t sign bill that congress proposed and within 3 weeks it was 45% inflation. So congress and Truman get together and pass bill. Atlantic Charter 1941 - 1941 is a treaty that Roosevelt and Churchill meet on a boat b4 the war. They agree that we will be on Churchill’s side and help fight Japanese. Germans are 1 st priority. Set our war strategy from the beginning Casablanca 1943 - another meeting between Roosevelt and Churchill in Africa. They discuss the progress of war. Probly not gonna be on there Stalingrad 1943 - first german loss to ruassians. After stalidgrad G I Bill 1944 – does two things. One of best last ever passed by congress. For vets when they come home. We help them buy a house and/or we pay for their education in college. Yalta 1944 - Roosevelt's last meeting with Stalin and Churchill took place at Yalta, in the Crimea, Feb. 4– 11, 1945. The conference is chiefly remembered for its treatment of the Polish problem: the western Allied leaders, abandoning their support of the Polish government in London, agreed that the Lublin committee—already recognized as the provisional government of Poland by the Soviet masters of the country—should be the nucleus of a provisional government of national unity, pending free elections. Manhattan Project early 1940s- building the atomic bomb. We built 3 cities and tried to keep them secret. Los Alamos New Mexico, Hanford Washington, Oakridge, Tennessee. Robert Oppenheimer early 1940s- directed the bomb thing. He tries to talk Truman out of dropping the bomb on people. He says tell Japanese to take people off this island and show them how powerful it is. Nagasaki 1945 – august 9 th 1945, 2 nd atomic bomb drops, ends the war. Truman Doctrine 1946 - containment Marshall Plan 1947 - The Marshall Plan (from its enactment, officially the European Recovery Program [ERP]) was the primary plan of the United States for rebuilding and creating a stronger foundation for the allied countries of Europe , and repelling communism after World War II . The initiative was named for Secretary of State George Marshall and was largely the creation of State Department officials, especially William L. Clayton and George F. Kennan . For these 6 years they were looking for comunists in the government and in the country. They investigated movies. Nixon was most famous congressman who was in it.
