EARLY LIFEFranklin Delano Roosevelt was born on January 30,1882, in Hyde Park, NY.His parents were James and Sara Ann Roosevelt.He grew up in Springwood, a wealthy estate in the Hudson River Valley in New York State.In 1896, Franklin attended a prestigious school in Massachusetts called Groton School for boys.He attended Harvard University in 1900.During his time at Harvard, Roosevelt met Eleanor, and on St. Patrick’s Day in 1905, they were married
POLITICAL CAREERIn 1910, Franklin Roosevelt was elected to the New York Senate as a democrat. Years later, he was appointed Assistant Secretary of the Navy under President Woodrow Wilson.In 1921, Franklin was diagnosed with poliomyelitis.His legs became permanently paralyzed. Roosevelt was elected to be New York’s governor in 1928.
