Lab report guidelines Lab reports must be word processed. Use 11- or 12-font size and use double spacing for narrative text. (If using MS-Word select: Paragraph > Line spacing > Double.) The first page should begin with title, your name, your partners’ names and date of lab activity. The key sections listed below should be in each lab report. Key Sections: Objective State the intent of the lab and give some context in terms of the specific equipment/procedure. Brief – a sentence or two Theory State the general physical principle(s) underlying the work being done. Brief – a sentence or two Procedure Give step-by-step key points in the procedure but don’t overdo it. For example, do not say things like “We turned the computer on”, or “We hit the Collect button”. A bulleted list sometimes works well for this section. Between half a page and a full page. Data Include data tables and (usually) graphs. Include a sample calculation for each measurement that is derived mathematically from others. Varies Conclusion A quantitative statement of results should be included along with possible sources of error. In some cases it may make sense to include lessons
