Nervous System- an extensive network of specialized cells that carry information to and from all parts of the body.Central Nervous System- brain and spinal cord.Brain- interprets and stores in friand send orders to muscles, glands, and organs.Spinal Cord- pathway connecting the brain and the peripheral nervous system. Peripheral Nervous System- transmits information to and from the central nervous system. Composed of autonomic and somatic nervous systems.Autonomic Nervous System- regulates glands, internal organs and blood vessels, pupil dilation, digestion, and blood pressure composed of parasympathetic divisions. Parasympathetic Division- maintains body functions under ordinary conditions and saves energy. Sympathetic Division- prepares the body to react and expend energy in times of stress.Somatic Nervous System- carries sensory information and controls movement of skeletal muscles.Neuroscience- a branch of life science dealing with the structure and function of neurons, nerves, and nervous tissue, focusing on relationship to behavior and learning. Neuron- a basic cell that makes up the nervous system and that receives and sends messages within that system.
