EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE PROPOSAL 2 Evidence-Based Practice Proposal 1. Overview of Selected Evidenced-Based Practice Project The foundation of nursing practice is based on a combination of research and evidence- based practice (EBP), which nurses rely on to inform their education and guidance in the provision of patient care. The nursing practice is at the forefront of healthcare—considering the extent to which nurses interact with patients in a 24-hour. For this reason, it is vital for a professional nurse to have knowledge on the latest research in nursing and have access to proper evidence that supports the implementation of their practice. Research in nursing can be described as a systematic investigation that encompasses the development, testing, and evaluation of research as contribution to the advancement of general knowledge in nursing. On the other hand, EBP is a lifelong approach to clinical practice that entails the integration of systematic search, appraisal, and analysis of research found relevant to a particular clinical expertise (Boswell & Cannon, 2018). Whereas research formulates previously non-existent knowledge for use in the nursing practice and subsequently adds on the professional knowledge available, evidence-based practice interprets the knowledge with an aim of improving the nursing practice. The main objective of EBP is the standardization and improvement of access to quality care in a given healthcare system. Moreover, EBP has borne immense benefits to nurses and patients. Specifically, improved patient outcomes are notable contributions of EBP. Due to the unrelenting emphasis on quality care, patients are experiencing improved health outcomes. Notably, the patient-centered approach embraced by EBP has helped mitigate redundant costs, thus lowering the costs of care. The incorporation of EBP in nursing education and clinical

Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) is the specialty track I am choosing for my Master of Science in nursing program. Adult gerontology will be my area of focus in practice. I anticipate that Evidence- Based Practice interventions will promote change in adult gerontology by improving patient outcomes. Furthermore, the utilization of research emanating from evidence-based research will assists in mitigating redundant costs and practices that are currently regarded as obsolete in gerontology. 2. Identification of the Nursing Concerns to be Improved Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a nursing concern in line with my specialty track in FNP and focus in gerontology. According to nursing data, more than half the older population and nursing home residents suffer from CVD (Piché, Poirier, Lemieux, & Després, 2018).

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
