Assignment 1.1 Peer discussion 1. Find a teacher who is in your content area and have a discussion about using literacy activities to teach your content. What kinds activities does he or she use? If none, try to determine why. Submit a short, 2-3 paragraph summary of your discussion. I talked with Jonathan Cooley an 8th grade Social Studies Teacher at Noblesville East Middle School. We talked about what literacy is, why it's important and how he includes it in teaching his class. Literacy is the term used when talking about the ability to read and write. According to Mr. Cooley we may not all be English teachers but all content areas have their own specific type of literacy, and it is a teacher's job to uncover that information and learn it fluently. Mr. Cooley says that one thing teachers are continually talking about is the need to encourage students towards higher-order thinking.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
