Working and Long term memory The broadest division is between short and long term memory The concept of short term memory is more than 100 years old and refers to the information that decays in a short time (seconds to minutes) If you do not use it The phrase short term memory has largely been replaced in cognitive psychology and neuroscience by the phrase working memory. Working memory works with or use his information to address a particular question or situation.
