HIGHER ED COURSE PROJECT: PART 1 2 Higher Ed Course Project: Part 1 Title IX is a federal law passed in 1972 which protects people of any gender from being excluded from participation in any type of educational-based program that receives Federal funding (NCAA, 2018). While, overall, the law has created more opportunities for women to participate, transgender students continue to struggle in their right to equality (Bryk, 2015). Title IX also attempts to provide, equal scholarship dollars for any gender at the same level of participation (NCAA, 2018. Title IX did not protect transgender students until the Obama administration (Title IX protection for transgender students, 2019). This protection was revoked under President Trump but was not made clear (Title IX protection for transgender students, 2019). Many states have since took it upon themselves to write laws to protect transgender students (Title IX protection for transgender students, 2019). The U.S. Department of Education explains that Title IX is not required in religious organizations because the views are deemed “inconsistent” with some religions (U.S.
