Hawaii Community College Division of Nursing & Allied Health Nursing 157, Spring Teaching Project Nurs 157 Student Learning Outcome #4: Demonstrate the ability to develop and present a basic teaching care plan that incorporates teaching strategies based on principles of adult learning. PROJECT: Students will work individually. You will create a teaching plan for a patient that includes: assessment of prior learning; diet specifications to include in teaching; identification of teaching strategies to employ in the teaching along with rationale explaining strategy selection. Diet List. Each student is to select one diet that is appropriate for a patient with one of the conditions listed below and sign up for that diet & condition via the sign-up sheet that will be posted on Laulima. If you would like to do another condition that is not on the list please speak with your instructor and secure approval prior to starting on the project. Alcoholism Anemia Anemia in those with vegetarian diets Anticoagulant therapy and diet Cancer with stomatitis needing increased calories Celiac disease Congestive Heart Failure Constipation COPD w/ dyspnea Crohnʻs Disease Diabetes- Patients with pre-diabetes Diabetes- Patients with po glycemic medications Diabetes- Patients on insulin Gastritis-NPO status Gout Hyperlipidemia Hypertension Irritable Bowel Syndrome Obesity needing weight loss Post bariatric-surgery Post-MI Post op surgery Renal – foods to avoid (focusing on locally available/cultural foods) Renal- fluid restrictions; food choices Typical types of hospital diets and acronyms (NCS, NAS, 2 gm Na + , Renal diet) NURS 157 updated 2018
