Should be competitive ←because you want to get the best candidate and we get to see different aspects from the candidate What is a political party: - Political parties are organizations seeking to take control of the gov’t - Are not mentioned in the US Constitution but they are part and partial to the US political practice. Critiques say: They are corrupt; they divide the nation (the blue states and red states); pollical parties are dangerous to the democracy. We want parties to be competitive and must earn our votes and respect. The political parties in the US fight for political power. In the history of the US have shared power almost evenly. There really isn’t a dominant party. Presidents are zigzag: It tells me that the country needs a balance; they want conservative or liberal policy. 3 main functions of political parties: -
