There are many pressures in making decisions based on information you are working with. There is a high cost of testing for reliability and competition for getting your product in the market as soon as possible. Discuss the trade-offs between analyzing the data to make an informed decision or making a quick decision to beat the competition. This week’s discussion topic reminds me of a seminar my squadron hosted a couple of years back. My commander wanted to completely reorganize the squadron to be more operationalized as opposed to our current structure of a support squadron to the operational squadrons. A few representatives from a consulting company called Agile came to present the concepts in the book, “The Lean Startup” authored by Eric Ries. The key takeaway was to “Fail Fast” and “Fail Often to Succeed Faster.” What that means is the Lean Startup demonstrated that minimalism (being simple) is a great philosophy for startups. Even if startups fail at an early stage, they can learn fast from failures, and eventually succeed faster.
