Surname 1NameInstructorInstitutionDateComparing and contrasting Spain’s and England’s first voyage around the worldSpain and England were the first nations to commission explorations around theworld. Ferdinand Magellan of Spain was the first explorer to undertake an exploration aroundthe world even though he himself did not make it through the entire voyage while Sir Francisdrake was the first explorer from England to explore around the world. This explorations hadmany impacts in the history of the world as it led to discovery of new lands, people andcultures, plants and animals. The voyages were faced with many challenges ranging fromharsh weather, hostile communities and attacks from rivals in sea. Despite the challenges bothparties completed the voyages leading to acquisition of knowledge, wealth, land and prestige. The voyages confirmed that the world was round as earlier suggested by scientists. This paperaims to compare and contrast the experiences and impacts of these voyages. Both voyages experienced harsh sea conditions like storms which disadvantaged theexplorers. In addition, change in direction of winds affected the voyagers as the technology ofships sailing majorly depended on the direction the wind was blowing. No sooner had theEnglish voyage commenced than it was interrupted by change in direction forcing Drake andhis crew to go back to Plymouth for repairs. (Francis). In the case of Ferdinand, the voyagersalso experienced harsh weather conditions which at times led them off course.
