(McShane/Tasa/Steen pg. 76). They are a result of incomplete or distorted information accepted as fact without question. Due to the process of overgeneralization within social perception, stereotyping leads to a great deal of inaccuracy in social perception.Most of us are aware of why stereotypes are not helpful. From a negative perspective they make us ignore differences and generalize about people or groups that might not be true.
