1. What is PUE, and why is it an important place to start when considering how to reduce data center power consumption? What value of PUE should data center managers strive for? Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) is a measurement of how effectively you deliver power and cooling to IT equipment. The typical PUE of a data center was 2.0 for every watt of IT energy consumed 1 watt of overhead was consumed to deliver the power and cooling. Ideally, you want to reduce the overhead and get the PUE as close to 1.0 as you can. The closer you get to the PUE ratio of 1.0, the more money you can save in energy costs. PUE Ratio 2. Describe the five methods recommended by Google for reducing power consumption. Management of air flow, to eliminate the mixture of the hot and cold air by using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). CFD will show where the hot spots are and how you can control the airflow. On the Computer Room Air Conditioning CRAC, you can add sheet metal extensions to increase the quality of air coming into the CRAC.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
