1. Take a look at the first page of Watchmen . Applying the principles of comic reading discussed in this module, provide an analysis of this page (i.e., what are Moore and Gibbons doing here, and how are they doing it?). ( Note: be sure to comment on the analyses of your colleagues. Do not be afraid to disagree with their interpretations, but please be gentle and thorough when presenting your counterarguments.) 2. Provide your own defence of the worth of comics or an opposing viewpoint (i.e., an explanation of why comics should not be considered literature). Both sides of the issue can legitimately be argued; do not feel hounded into defending comics if you would rather not do so. 3.Watchmenis set in a world that some describe as “utopic” and some as “dystopic.” Look up the concepts of “utopia” and “dystopia” and discuss them as regards the comic. Is Watchmenconcerned most with utopic or with dystopic concepts and imagery? Please provide evidence to back up your viewpoint.
