2 Equal Protection Issues Same sex activity has been legal in the United States for 16 years if this issue were a person it would not be old enough to buy a drink. North America has been the most progressive territory when it comes to the issue of same sex relations. There are many countries that still do not allow same sex relations and others that differentiate between male on male and female on female relations as far as legality. The issue of same sex unions in America was a hot topic in 2003 and so was the issue of homosexuals serving in the military. In 2011 the “don’t ask don’t tell” policy was abolished and members of the military were able to serve and be open about their sexuality. Currently there are issues with businesses being able to discriminate against members of the LGBTQ community. Recently in the United States there has been controversy dealing with gender identification and the treatment of transgendered persons. There were many policies and procedures that had to be changed because of the way that homosexual activity is not viewed in the United States and other places around the world.
