Original Post for Discussion #1: Over the past several years, electronic health record (EHR) and personal health record (PHR) have revolutionized healthcare through various aspects. As more healthcare facilities transition from paper charts to EHRs, the benefits will increase for both practitioners and patients. EHR provides methods in coordinating care between providers; thus, improving continuity of care for patients (Mitchell & McBride, 2019). Both records also incorporate the use of Clinical decision support (CDS) tools. CDS encompasses a variety of tools to enhance decision-making in the clinical workflow. These tools include alerts and reminders to practitioners and patients, clinical guidelines, condition-based order sets, and contextually relevant reference information (Mitchell & McBride, 2019). Even though EHRs and PHRs have the same functionality, they are both contrastly different in how they are used. The PHR and patient portal has been great in allowing patients to have access to educational resources and their own personal medical information (Tietze & Hoelscher, 2019). Ultimately, these records have shown strides in research, along with making patient-centered care more approachable. EHRs have provided facilities an easier method in managing specific patient data. Thus, assisting providers and other healthcare staff in accessing medical records to review. Also, EHRs have shown to improve efficiency within the healthcare delivery

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
