Energy Systems: Your body uses three different systems to provide energy for physical activity: Aerobic system Lactic Acid System Phospho-creatine (PC) system These three system interconnect with each other and are used according to the duration and the intensity of the activity needing to be performed. High intensity activity often requires anaerobic (without oxygen) energy. Developing an aerobic base allows increased amount of lactate to be removed from your muscles, allowing the anaerobic system to be used for longer periods of time. Lactate is the acid that causes muscle soreness. PC System (YELLOW): Immediate energy, from energy stored in muscles (ATP), for short duration, explosive activities (E.G. weightlifting, 100m sprint, throwing athletic events) Lactic Acid System (ORANGE): Medium duration and high intensity activity. Latic acid builds up in muscles (E.G. 200m, 400m sprints, 50 swimming race) Aerobic System (GREEN): Long duration, medium intensity activity. Uses oxygen to remove lactate. (E.G. Marathon runners, Triathletes)

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
