Unformatted text preview: PROFESSIONAL PRESENCE AND INFLUENCE 8 A. Create two specific goals for each of the four aspects of your whole person to maintain balance. It is important to set realistic and specific goals. I have set two goals for each of four categories for my mindfulness practice plan. These four categories are physical, emotional, spiritual, and vital/rhythmic (Sherwood 8r Horton-Deutsch, 2012). One goal that I have set for the physical aspect is to exercise at least three times per week for 30 minutes each time. My second goal for the physical aspect is to only allow myself a maximum of one soda per week. My first goal for the emotional aspect is to replace each negative thought that comes to my mind with a positive thought, for one month. Another emotional goal I have set is to play my ukulele twice every week throughout the rest of the year to help relieve stress in my life. A spiritual goal that I would like to set for myself is to write out three personality traits that I would like to improve on in my own life, and evaluate my progress at the end of each month. My second spiritual goal is to memorize "The Family," a document significant in my religion, by the end of the year. My first vital goal is to get at least 8 hours of sleep each night. My second vital goal is to meditate once every week throughout the rest of the year (Sherwood & Horton-Deutsch, 2012). B. Discuss how youwill achieve each of the goals created in part Cla, including how you will adjust to the changing of your whole person. Not only is it important to set goals, but it is also important to make a plan to achieve each goal. For the physical aspect, I will be sure to meet my goal of exercising at least three times a week by having a close friend be my “gym buddy.” My friend and I have both gotten a PROFESSIONAL PRESENCE AND INFLUENCE 9 gym membership and are currently working on scheduling three days for each upcoming week that we will get together and go to the gym. Having a friend for this goal is important for me. We help motivate and encourage each other, making it easier to find time to attend. For my second goal to reduce my soda intake, I will be sure to have a strong willpower! I drink soda about 3-4 times per week and would like to reduce that to one time or less each week. I will buy other drinks from the store that I really like to satisfy my taste buds while taking in less sugar. I will also drink more water and replace soda with water while I am at work. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
