One difficulty in attributing the US. health disadvantage to deficiencies in the public health or medical care system is that health care exerts a partial influence on health outcomes in concert with other important determinants of health such as lifestyle, socioeconomic status, and public policy. Longer life expectancy and improved health is probably traceable to some combination of health system characteristics and these other individual and community conditions, but the exact contribution of each factor is unknown and may vary over place and time.1 The objective of Experiences of Homeless People in the Health Care Delivery System: A Descriptive Phenomenological Study is to understand the experiences of homeless people with the health care system. Four (4) major were themes emerged: (1) living without essential resources compromises health; (2) putting off health care until a crisis arises; (3) encountering barriers to receiving health care to include (a) social triage, (b) feeling labeled and stigmatized, (c) a non—system for health care for the homeless, (d) being treated with disrespect, and (e) feeling invisible to health care providers; and (4) developing underground resourcefulness.
