A product that I would like to be involved in marketing is home security systems. The two most effective tools for marketing home security systems are focus groups and secondary data. Focus groups are a great way to gauge how consumers feel about a product, which is particularly valuable when marketing something like a home security system. Marketers can gather data on people’s fears and anxieties about home security, and use that information to craft and persuasive advertisement. According to Arnould & Epp (2006), focus groups can be just as effective in gathering qualitative data as an in depth interview. Focus group are also are also a simple and time efficient way to collect qualitative data that otherwise couldn’t be gathered from a survey or purchase data (Arnould & Epp, 2006). However, secondary data is useful in determining who the target market of a home security system is. For example, census data can tell marketers what percentage of people own versus rent a home in an area. Marketers can also use crime data in certain areas to further persuade
