1 Zander Swatek Mr. Stupp Foundation of the modern world B8 13 december 2018 What new ideas and values led to the reformation, and what social and political effects did the reformation cause? While researching texts written about the 95 theses that happened in the early fifteen hundreds and the late sixteen hundreds, there were a few factors that led up to the protestant reformation. I found these factors are the creation of the 95 theses, the reaction to the theses and the translation of the bible. If These factors (most importantly the 95 theses) did not happened, then there probably is a high chance that indulgences and other church’s wrong doings would have still been used today. It all started in 1517 by a monk named Martin Luther. Martin Luther realised how bad indulgences and even the church are. Some people understood how bad the church was, but no one had enough courage to actually do something about it. Luckily Martin Luther created the 95 theses which were ideas to change, or reform the papacy. Martin Luther Decided to nail these 95 theses on to the door of the Wittenberg Castle Church for discussion to change the church. The 95 theses that he nailed to the wall were based on the bible being the central of religious authority and that humans may reach salvation only by their faith and not by their deeds, which sparked the Protestant Reformation. Overall, the 95 theses are probably one of biggest sparks

2 that led up to the protestant reformation. If the 95 theses were never created, there would not be lutheranism, calvinism, presbyterians, the society of Jesus and the theology of Huldrych Zwingli.
