M7D1: Identifying Halide Ions Pre-Lab Discussion What is the main purpose of this experiment? The purpose of this experiment is to identify an unknow halide solution using specific analytical techniques. This will be accomplished by mixing various chemicals with the halides to produce a salt or precipitate in the test tube. We will start with a set of control or known halides to learn how each chemical reacts and what type of salt (precipitate) it forms. The data obtained from the control halides will be instrumental for the identification of the unknown chemicals. (Macmillian Learning, 2017) What are some of the major assumptions of this experiment? Well, I guess it could be assumed that: - The halogens will present in such a quantity that identification of the salts will easy in the virtual lab. - Addition of chemicals (liquid and solid) to a beaker or test tube will result in an instantaneous homogenous mixture; mixing or stirring will not be necessary.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
