Avi’Ania Edwards Diabetes: The Hidden Killer Diabetes is a disease in which the body’s ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin is impaired, resulting in abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates and elevated levels of glucose in the blood and urine. There are two breeds of diabetes, people can treat type 1 diabetes with insulin injections and need careful diet and activity planning to avoid complications of treatment. A person can control type 2 diabetes with lifestyle measures, oral medication, injections, and also insulin if other treatments are not successful. In 2017, C hina was acing the largest diabetes problem in the world with around 11% of it’s population and a result of air pollution according to a United States study published. Type 1 diabetes develops at a younger age, people of any race, and gender, a nyone can be exposed to obtaining diabetes type 1. With type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. The body breaks down the carbohydrates you eat into blood glucose known as blood sugar, which produce us with energy. Insulin is a hormone needed to allow sugar known as glucose to enter cells to produce energy. A person diagnosed with diabetes can benefit from the treatment of insulin therapy. Although insulin does not cure type 1 diabetes it can regulate blood sugar levels, a person’s diet and lifestyle to prevent further complications. Genetics or exposure to viruses and other environmental factors can be a cause. Type 1 diabetes can affect ones heart which could inflict in a heart attack, stroke, and high blood pressure. As well as complications to the blood vessels the nerves, foot, eyes and kidney becomes damageable. By maintaining a normal blood sugar level, you can reduce the risk of these complications.
